Stimulating discussion and self-reflection in teenagers to inspire them to feel confident in their own body through experiencing an art installation. The installation addresses the unreal expectations imposed upon them by social media. Two bodies are presented looking into a mirror, one on either side, one a plus size and the other size zero, a muslin over-skin covers the bodies giving the torsos a chameleon-like second skin, embracing the protective nature of our own body coverings. Quotes and text from my research are incorporated into the mirror with blank areas for viewers to comment upon, the words reflecting on the bodies on either side. Positive images are integrated onto the mirror frame, so both the negative, neutral and positive research is shown. The two torsos look through the mirror at each other and are reflections of one another signifying the equality of both figures, the surrounding images on the mirror adding to the confidence any size or shape woman should have in their own body
Materials: papier mache, wooden stand, wooden mirror frame, body positivity images, printed acetate.
